Online Defamation

Cyber defamation is an aspersion or slander done through digital media with an intention to attack someone’s reputation or goodwill of an organization. It is a false statement or review posted on a particular website or social media platform purposely demeaning certain firm, its commodity or service provided, certain religion, government or even persons. Some intends to take revenge through degrading other’s value in public. Whatever the reason is, the victim loses his/her reputation, fame, or goodwill in case of firms. Such an act leaves a long lasting impact about the victim in the society, making them helpless at such times. Stopping defamation is difficult, as no beforehand warning is given, if the defamer has no serious issue then a cease or forbear letter may stop the behavior and gets the statements erased from the internet, but if the person is acting because of ill will it may be necessary to file a report with the police depending on local law. An organization’s ex-employee posting untrue statements regarding the organization or any social media user commenting on government’s actions can be examples of defamation.
